What line & setup should I use for trolling in a bay? Penn 309 reel. 20lb line for more length? 30lb more pwr?

Most of the fish will max out at 50LB. Expect barracuda, Kingfish, mackerel, odd tarpon, odd snook.

A Penn 309 will hold over 300 yards of 30 pound line. That’s more than you’ll need for fish that size, so there’s no reason to fill it with 500 yards of 20. So go with the 30. (If you have problems with bigger fish, I’m sure the reel is strong enough to handle 40 pound.)
