does anyone know how a weedless fishing hook works and does it work?

A weedless hook is usually a metal spring or a stiff piece of bristle or plastic monofilament line extending to partly cover the point and barb of the hook. This cover is stiff enough to push weeds and sticks away but still opens up enough if a fish bites. They are good for fishing in thick weeds and brush. They are not snag proof, but they will cut down on getting stuck in some situations. I think since sometimes they help you fish in a place where the fish might be that would be difficult otherwise, you can say they work. You might not hook every fish because of the cover on the hook, but your percentage improves because you are fishing where the fish are.
